Unexpected Growth

by
Charly Warlow

Taking global haiku with Dr. Brooks, pushed me outside of my comfort zone in many ways. Starting off I had no experience with haiku and never saw myself writing or analyzing poetry. I chose the title Unexpected Growth because I experienced growth that I never expected to experience during college. This course pushed me beyond limits that I didn’t think I had and for that I am truly thankful. Haiku has really spoke to me and I look forward to reading and writing more as I continue tackling life.

cap and gown
steps across the stage
a new chapter

farmhouses
dreaming
maybe one day

back to school
studying
missing my dog

sitting alone
the headstone reads
“little brother”

dripping wet
wrapped like tacos
the moon shines

looking out the window
red cardinal
mom, is that you?

tall grass
wind blowing
where’s my mom

carpool karaoke
long ride
I have to pee

watching it rain
turning pages
of my book

hit the road
for a family adventure
palm trees await

family picture
dog and cats
together

planting flowers
children run
through the yard

beach waves
sand in my toes
sitting alone
