Moments in Time

by
Lanie Bacon

As I entered 2023, I was enrolled into a class named Global Haiku Tradition. I never explored haiku or poetry as a whole deeply before this class. I was able to dive deeper into the true meaning of haiku. Also I was tasked to analyze and imagine a vast array of haiku throughout these few weeks. I took fond liking and interest from numerous different authors which pushed me to formulate and construct my own haikus. I was able to compile my knowledge as time progressed to now be able to reflect on my works. I have named my collection “Moments In Time”. I chose this title due to these haikus being a representation of moments and days throughout my winter break. These haikus represent a time period and my compiled creativity in this moment of my life. Overall, this haiku collection represents just as the title states, Moments In Time.

foggy air feels wet
barely able to see the lines
on the road

talking with grandpa
i have to look at the sky
he is always there

baby down to nap
so peaceful and beautiful
no worries in sight

time for some rest now,
unwind and relax tonight
i turn on the tv

calmness overtakes
not even a single breathe
complete silence now

feeling so alive
always running through the town
no care in the world

mommy on
a first name basis
to look cool for friends

cleaning up my mess
this is why i do not cook
it is not my thing
