Haiku

by
Nova Spence

I believe that things happen in your life for a reason. If not, you would not have any testimony. To tell someone how you made it through will also give someone hope and faith to help him or her in his or her situation. Haiku for me is a stress reliever. I can dig deep into my mind and talk about something I have been through. I love Suzuki’s haiku about the mole under her eye. How she cared for it tenderly. After I read that haiku, I checked for a mole under my eye. Sure enough it is there. My life had been tearful.

I took this class as a requirement. I was not too sure what I was getting into. I did not even sign up for this class, Pam Smith the Millikin advisor did. Truly, this class has been a blessing to me. I can freely express myself, and let the reader take it however they want it. Thanks to Dr. Randy Brooks for making this one of the most inspiring and fun classes I have ever taken.

rejected again
my heart is heavy
trees full of snow

blinding flash of lightning
silhouette
knife in hand

          thundering clashes
          the stairs creaks

scared to move
window is stuck
flashlight's dim

          Saturday night
          at the carnival haunted house

can't wait to get out
my heart pounding fast
running through the house

          can't find the exit
          look! more people

tiptoeing over the tombstone
they rest in peace

you finally arrive
I prayed so long
by God’s grace

just like a seashell
not two are alike
be your self
