Selected Haiku

by Becky Voigt

I have many titles for my book of beginning haiku…Dream, Love, Creation, Believe, Imagine, Pray, etc. It’s amazing all the different feelings that can be expressed in three simple lines!

I have not based my haiku on just one subject. I have written my haiku from personal experiences from my life and my imagination. I have learned that haiku is remembering or creating an image and putting it on paper in three lines so readers can experience those moments wherever their minds will take them. The readers can interpret and create their own understanding, and it may not be how the writer had seen it—freedom of expression and understanding

tiny hand
clutched in mine
my baby girl

         A Promise

vows
our promise
will last forever

         words spoken
         from the heart

golden bands
on our fingers
for life

pulling me close
our wedding kiss
embrace

         our song
         we dance slowly

Together
memories we make
as one

dim hospital lights
last kiss stays
on my lips

early morning
coffee fills the air
time for work

jack-o-lantern in the window
candle wax
runs from it mouth

another dent in
my new car
