Grandma's House: My Haiku Selections

Before entering my global haiku class this semester, I had never heard the word "haiku". This class was very interesting and I learned things I wouldn't have learned in any other class. What I learned and like most about haiku is that feelings play a major part in writing and understanding haiku, and no one is wrong. Most of my haiku deal with my childhood growing up in the south and just everyday situations with my family, especially my daughter, and working as an RN.

The title of my haiku book is "Grandma's house" becauce most of my fondest memories, except for the birth of my daughter, seem to be at my grandmother's house.

December morning
cozy bed
alarm clock ringing

Winter night
Christmas lights
five year old bright eyes

empty wallet
hundereds of dollars
under my Christmas tree

country church
big fancy hat
shades her Sunday best

sunny winter morning
long five minute drive
warm shower

happy to see
tossing and turning

aching feet
2 days to go
Chrismas is near

mall is crazy
  I am also
turn around

unhappy little girl
up too late

good day at school
many more
santa will come
