Kukai 3

Mattoon PACE Global Haiku--Kukai 3, Fall 2005

snow outside
the chimney is clean
where's Santa?

Grandpa—
kissing his bald spot
for luck

family portrait:
half my face
missing

he hugs me and says
I'm the best mom
Guilt.

Grandpa's shop
sawdust fills the air
my first birdhouse

superbowl Sunday
men around the tv
after her funeral

freezing rain pelts the window
his old faded sweatshirt
hugs her warmly

white lights
T w I n K l E
under the weight of the snow

long weekend
no map
endless opportunities

pollen on my feet
making me laugh
flying flower to flower

pipe cleaner body
wears a felt dress
childhood angel makes the tree

sunday morning
walk in the park
holding hands

summer vacation
the car crowded
with the oxygen tank

sunset
shoulders kissed by the sun
footprints follow us

one tiny seed
from a dandelion
another world?

knock on the door
presents on the porch
Santa?

brain in overdrive
late nights too
Graduation Day
