Winter Haiku

I love the beginning of winter. We start off with giving thanks for what we have in November, and then we share memories and presents in December. Being from a large family means that Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of the few times that everyone gathers together in one place. With so many stories told, and memories created during these two cold months, the beginning of winter will always hold a special place in my heart. These haiku were written about my love of this season, and the joy it brings.

pumpkin pie
I gather with giants
to watch the game

Christmas lights
small children gather
ooohs and ahhhhs

snow fills the sky
she walks in the door
to his warm smile

a well packed snowball
explodes on my head
children's laughter

wrapping paper
covers the floor
five smiling faces

she glares at us
as we walk by . . .
