Moon Shadow

by
Crissy Lennon

Dedicated to my mother, Debbie.

sunshine on soft dirt
roses on her bed
rain clears tears

my old mailbox
I open
nothing again

another day passes
closer to Christmas
the kids count

wings expand
into the darkness
moonshadow

firewood burning
inside a barrel
old men smile

looking hard
at the veteran's wall
rose petals

old tin roof
drops of rain
scent of dirt

smoke everywhere
from the tailpipe
daddy's beat up truck

rusty broken bridge
I drive across
praying

over the horizon
I see myself
just one step closer
