city lights dimmed
under fallen snow
on a calm winter night

city lights dim

frost covered windows
you hold me under
feathered blankets

stepping stones
across the frozen creek
gleaming stars

star-studded sky
the gleam of stepping stones

northern sky
sleepy eyes
in the knothole

northern stars
the glow of eyes
from the knothole

empty bridge
full of tracks
on the snow

across the footbridge
so many tracks
through the fresh snow

quiet forest
only the sound
of falling snow

barren forest
the silence
of fallen snow

in the top bunk
in the bottom bunk
both wide awake

new boots in snow
off the school bus
changing into school shoes

puppy nosing at
the chilly pet door...
decides to hold it

dark garage...
puppy noses
the frozen pet door

 

understanding frost

squint my eyes
to reveal it’s life
