Kukai 7 - Food

Global Haiku • Spring 2007
Lizabeth, Whitney, Joan, Jenna - Selectors

sizzling on the stove
timer going off
first couple’s dinner

slaving over the stove
they eat the meal
like a pack of wolves

he stays the night
and asks for breakfast
I can’t cook!

a little of this
a little of that
homemade meals

flour on my cheeks
he kisses me
just like the apron says

double cheeseburger
you never let me
down

he touches her shoulder…
the water begins
to boil

Italian restaurant
dinner date
my favorite
chicken?

crying into my
Chunky Monkey—
my only friends
are Ben and Jerry

she orders
a footlong hot dog
I feel inadequate…

I meet his parents…
a beautiful steak dinner
and I’m a vegetarian

cooking for dummies
I make my own meal
from scratch

pulp free/country style
calcium fortified
is anything simple

hamturkeygreensyamscornbreadsweetpotatoepie, Thanks Mom

the cake tastes…
…delicious…
diabetic grandma

just woke up
nothing to eat
cold pizza

Blacks,Whites,Asians
no matter what problems
FOOD brings them together

intense hours of food network
my roommate
a gourmet chef

steaming with butter side
POP—goes the crustacean
sweet white meat

corn bread
muffin
tastes of home

grill lines intact
steaming slightly pink center
bovine at it's finest

sweet chocolate
melts slowly in my mouth
comfort

one fork
two mouths
and a sigh of contentment

it’s spring
        fire up
        the grill

warm and soft with
chocolate still melting
stolen cookie

words from last night
linger at the table
pass the salt…

decorating cakes
with grandma
mmm icing

Mom's snicker doodles
a warm one
off the cookie sheet

spicy pepper creates
beads of sweat
ice water

exam day
craving
blue berry muffin

a pint of moose tracks
and a DVD
better than any stupid boy

rushed in the morning
breakfast of champions
Redbull and a cigarette

no time to cook
my morning oatmeal
burnt toast it is…

bananas, chocolate, and pickles
eaten all day long
cravings

the smell of spices
drifts through the house
grandma's cookies

the recipe
calls for—
almonds

ice cream in
the middle of winter
dedication

meat and potatoes
remind them
when they had little
