Chaos

thick gray fog
my own hands invisible to me
your eyes meet mine

after a long night
wet grass

in her bedroom
she sits alone
waiting

footsteps
climb the stairs

staring out the window
the morning moon
reflects in her eyes

bacon sizzles
his voice echoes

rays of sunlight
capture dust
in the air

she sits at her desk
waiting for 5 o’clock

the drive home
one too familiar
her only solitude

the anticipation of chores
she dreads

eyes meet
kids bouncing around
sugar rush

children’s birthday party
parents meet for the first time

glow stars on the ceiling
mom turns out
the light

finally alone
their first chance for a kiss

they find their escape
among the chaos of
books and toys

next day
the truth evolves

a new seed planted
her body blossoms
in the garden

muddy footprints
from visitors to the house

crime scene tape
lots of questions
and no answers

cops and robbers
our childhood game

grilled cheese sandwiches
mom calls our names
time for lunch

tablecloth cape
king of the table

kool-aid mustache
sticky fingers
napping in the shade

wet kisses from fido
ruins my dream

a serge of energy
i run after
the dog

out of breath
with a scraped knee

too much to drink
i visit…
my private nurse

she heals what hurts
all night long

the moon and sun
sit side by side
it’s time to go

the children sleeping
using each other as pillows

entering the quiet house
the children are put to bed
all cuddling with their dolls

mom and dad
tiptoe off to bed

the silence of the house
lets them relax
and enjoy each others embrace

autumn storm
tears gather at my feet

rough winds
cherry blossoms fall
creating clouds

looking in the distance
they see
what might have been...
