Just an Accessory

by
Shannon Hackl

“Just an accessory” was written over a period of months from January to May of 2007 during Dr. Randy Brooks Haiku class. Most of these haiku come from the winter months. The title can go with just about any haiku. In Shannon’s signature haiku:

first date
what to wear
with snow on the ground

an accessory would be something to add to the moment. Most of her haiku are from her relationship and friendships. She has also taken inspiration in her life aspirations and goals. An accessory always seems to be the perfect fit no matter what time of year and at any part of your life.

a moonlit path
guides a couple
on a lakeside tour

waking up early
for fresh doughnuts
still dark out

first date
what to wear
with snow on the ground

return for the touchdown
on the first play of the game
this might be ok

bronze man
so many memories
for just one man

in a fleece blanket
all snuggled up
sleepy puppy

he touches her shoulder…
the water begins
to boil
