Fishing Boots

I yearn for the days
my biggest decision
was pink or blue dress

rainbow of polish
on the carpet

acetone stench
fills my nostrils
pedicure

ancient ladies
with cotton hair

porch under the moonlight
green tea
fireflies

frappuccino
looks like mold

I don't like coffee
“try this”
. . . blegh

bitter aftertaste
like my first boyfriend

homecoming dance
I rip up
our couple's ticket

confidence is:
eating alone

movie theater
hand dangles on the armrest
fishing for love

please take the bait . . .
disappointment

do you wanna like, cuddle?
full moon
do you wanna like, date?

a kiss on the cheek
“thanks”

awkward.
the bitch says
“you’re welcome”

red paint
on her chair

practical joke
woman
in bloom

bathroom stall
lunch alone

I picture the bullies
twisting ankles
in pointe shoes

ashamed
to wear flip-flops

another language
poking fun at
my dancer's feet

he doesn't mind
my true love

after surgery
he paints
my toes

this one's
a keeper

my birthday
his family loves me
more than he does

finally invited
to family dinner

playing footsie
under the table
. . . his dad

hole in sock
doing the hobo walk

central park
moonlight rendezvous
with the bird lady

big yellow bird
my childhood lives

cookie monster
only crumbs
remain

Christmas cookies and egg nog
you'll shoot your eye out, kid

candy canes
makeshift
fish hooks

smell of pine
fills the house

mistletoe
waiting for a kiss . . .
settle for a smile

closet door hangs open
a pink and a blue dress
