eighth grade love note
still don't know
his team

steaming cups of tea

the receding tide

tightening the cinch

buzzing cars: the expressway
I watch from my lawn

the night darkens
alone
I can't see the stars

to spy on her

hand dangles on the armrest
fishing for love

flowers in the corner
once beautiful—
wilted and dry

I hold back tears
as she asks
if dogs go to heaven
