A Bad Hunting Trip

spring turkey season
hiking through the hills
. . . morels

DD

a wasp's nest high
keeps me wary

KKB

buzzing overhead—
I nearly startle
the aged Tom

BB

squadron of jets
low over the valley

RMB

disturbed from sleep
flocks of ibis
shadow the moon

TH

taking initiative
the hunter arms his rifle

LD

•

food on the table—
empty whiskey bottles
on the floor.

AF

she cleans up the mess
again . . . for him

TH

the team waits
as the coach
runs laps

JF

now he knows
how they feel

HN

squeaking tennis shoes
hurried breath
lessons learned

DV

remembered
when there are consequences.

AB

•

rising moon
lights the field
running continues

JM

running from his past
—and drug dealers

DD

close behind
Walter White
as Heisenberg

KKB

quickly approaching—
a timely fall

BB

so many petals
over the roadster
top down

RMB

a beautiful purple spec
caught in her flowing hair.

AF

•

a cat
crosses the road
stop sigh

TH

screeching to a halt,
the kids scream

JF

Not a ray of
sunshine
can be seen

HN

clouds pull close
threaten

DV

The mugger
pulls a knife
my wallet

AB

the brown coarse leather
empty

KKB

•

What will I do?
the danger approaches
he grabs me by the neck
BB

Gasping for final breaths
She remembers home

DD

blood spatter
a small knife
prevents her from turning

JM

the moon watches
from the rooftops

AE

good friends
pouring wine
come alive in the nighttime

JM

in the midst of the party
—she vanishes

DD

•

the bathroom
a line of cocaine
fulfills her wishes

BB

the white beckons
her only consul

KKB

blank walls
surround
the mental health patient

AB

he bangs his head
too much white

DV

the blossoms
slowly
dying

HN

Only to bring . . .
. . . insight.
