Selected Haiku
by

Emily Evans

campfire payphone
a five minute call
more lonely than before

cold February night
New York City
changing clothes in the car

drunk in Harvard Square
in-between kisses
mom on the cell phone

every night
dinner alone
using your pottery

back on the bus
too early in the morning
stolen hotel pillows and sheets

shaking the guitar
above my head
it swallowed the pick

coming home to find
the world has fallen
off the kitchen wall

walking alone
kicking a beer can
all the way home

that old sweater
holes in the elbows
our first kiss

my love
text messages me
haiku from the road

moving away
magnetic poetry
off the refrigerator
